Örebro parkrun #24 run report

Örebro Parkrun
Father & son - Testing parkrun for the 1st time

The event was made possible by 9 volunteers:

Matt FORD • Andrew LOWRY • Karl KIND • Annica SJÖLUND • Diego MONTIEL ROJAS • Jimmy GLINNERÅS • Nicklas FORSLING • Veida HARLIN • Magnus BERGENTZ

A really great parkrun we had on Saturday, as per usual with 5 minutes to the start very few people had shown up and then all of a sudden "pang" everyone is there. With Lidingöloppet and Berlin Marathon we expected to miss some runners but instead we were blessed with 25 1st timers and of course some of our "regulars". Including our current leader with most Örebro parkruns attended Mikael Sandberg at 21 (we've only been going 24 times!), only 29 left to your "50" parkrun milestone shirt. Annica Sjölund stand at 21, Linnea Ekblad & Tony Bergman at 17...great stuff guys. Check the results page for your current standing.

I ran myself this week, well the course has to be inspected sometimes, and it was great to see 1st hand the true mix of people that take part at parkrun. Several families with young children, running, jogging, walking and even flying!

Örebro Parkrun
Where do they find the energy?

Runners with strollers, dogs and a truly fantastic mix of ages, which other event offers this?

It seems the word is spreading and we say keep going, tell everyone you know about us, challenge your family, your work collegues to come down and give Örebro parkrun a try.

Lots of great pictures this week thanks to Jimmy and Veida:

Matt FORD • Stephanie LOWRY • Andrew LOWRY • Ulrika FORD • Karl KIND • Stefan SJÖGREN • Julia HAMMARSTRÖM • Petter SEGERÅS • Thomas BERGMAN • Mattias REKONIUS • Johan LINDSKOG • Diego MONTIEL ROJAS • Mikaela KEMPPI • Elin SJÖBERG

Om 2 veckor (30/9) är det IF Starts tur so come and join the party

The event was made possible by 14 amazing volunteers:

Matt FORD • Stephanie LOWRY • Andrew LOWRY • Ulrika FORD • Karl KIND • Stefan SJÖGREN • Julia HAMMARSTRÖM • Petter SEGERÅS • Thomas BERGMAN • Mattias REKONIUS • Johan LINDSKOG • Diego MONTIEL ROJAS • Mikaela KEMPPI • Elin SJÖBERG

The theme for Saturday’s parkrun in Örebro, our 23rd, was to introduce one of the town’s running clubs to our community and promote the benefits they can offer. This time around it was the turn of ÖAIK.
It was great to see lots of blue and white club shirts and as usual the weather didn’t disappoint, in fact it was glorious sunshine.
We had 4 pace groups as a fun way to demonstrate how run at a controlled pace and Ulrika, Andrew, Johan and Karl did a fantastic job all coming home within seconds of their target times. Indeed, we had a massive 22 new PB’s today, well done everyone there.

25 1st timers to parkrun which is also great and hopefully went away happy and wanting to come back for more in the future. Saturday was a win-win for everybody concerned. Introducing new people to parkrun and ÖAIK and how we can mutually benefit each other and strengthen running in the local community. Of course running once a week at parkrun is fine but why not test yourself a set a goal of running a 10km, ½ marathon or even the holy marathon? It’s all individual and we want to encourage consistent, healthy activity

We took lots of fantastic action pictures on Saturday and thanks goes to Petter, Stefan and a new volunteer this week who just presented himself at the start called Jimmy. All our pictures are loaded up to our Örebro parkrun Flickr page and anyone should be able to view them:

Thanks again to ÖAIK.
In 2 week’s time (30/9) it’s IF Start’s turn so come and join that party.

Great family atmosphere

The event was made possible by 8 wonderful volunteers:

Matt FORD • Karl KIND • Maria ENGSTRÖM • Julia HAMMARSTRÖM • Thomas BERGMAN • Johan LINDSKOG • Kerstin KRANTZ • Veida HARLIN

The weather was, as most Saturdays, on our side and indeed was 20c towards the end. Anyway who cares if it rains when you can fika afterwards?

I really enjoyed our parkrun on Saturday! That may sound a bit odd, surely I enjoy every week, but there was just a really nice "flow" about this time. Everything went without hitch, all of the volunteers were experienced so nothing needed explaining and we had all 3 Run Directors (RD's) present for the 1st time in a while which gave us an opportunity (approx 18 mins till the 1st runner came in!) to relax and chat.

parkrun, as I'm sure you're all aware, is totally voluntary, which means none of us earns any money from it and we all do it in our "spare" time; which also means we don't get these opportunities to chat and relax very often. People ask us, why do you do it and it boils down to our love for running. Myself, the other RD's and most of the volunteers are all runners or active in other sports and want others to enjoy the positive benefits it brings.

Which brings me to a couple of points I want to highlight in today's run report: Örebro parkrun family, pb's and "fika"

P1010440

The great Swedish fika, do I need to say anymore?

Over the past few weeks we have noticed some of the parkrunners who have become like family members are also testing out other events and races around Örebro and Sweden are forming bonds that we are so happy to see. This, amongst many other things, is what parkrun is all about. Getting people active and giving them the platform to test themselves. The fact that we are there EVERY week and for FREE gives everyone the chance to be consistent and you can see the progress via your emails and the results published on the website (link further down)

This week we had an amazing 10 personal bests (PB's)...INCREDIBLE! You guys keep turning up improving yourselves, this is what we love at parkrun.

August and Gustav enjoying a well deserved fika

One little boy, August Grek, who is 7 years old, not only ran the whole way with his Dad but did so in a PB time of 26.58, well done mate!

Vad vore parkrun utan sina fantastiska volontärer?? Ingenting!
