Love it!!

Congratulation on your 50 milestone Lars

I'd like to start this week's run report by congratulating Lars Lanneborn on being only the 2nd person at Örebro parkrun to reach their 50 milestone. This is a fantastic achievement when we consider that we have held 61 events and Lars has also been a volunteer on a number of occasions too. Hats off to you Lars.

As I have promised not to mention the football (oops I just did!) we can instead talk about the weather! It actually rained for the 1st time this year at parkrun, but hey guess what it actually stopped during the event and started up again afterwards!

Lots of footy shirts still on show

Visitor from Germany Dominic Poschenrieder

Great to see runners/ walkers of all abilities and even from other countries, we welcome everyone and anyone to parkrun. Dominic is living and working in Örebro and was first back across the finish line today, cheered on by his parents who were here on holiday visiting from Germany. Hope to see you again soon Dominic.

Despite the rain we had a nice turnout with new people taking part, families, kids and I'm pleased that people are coming to walk parkrun with us. Keep spreading the word that we are all about encouraging physical activity in a warm, friendly non-competitive environment.

See you next week for Örebro parkrun #62 and you will be in the safe hands of our new Run Director Lotta so please be nice to her!

Grattis Josefin & Johan

What can we say about this amazing summer we are having except that it continues to deliver! I can't remember the last time we had rain at Örebro parkrun (am I tempting fate now?) But what it means is a simplicity, a more relaxing feeling when we arrive to set up and it's already glorious sunshine and around 20c. Parkrunners start turning up with smiles on their faces, but maybe that's more to do with the fact they are about to start their weekend in the best possible way!

At the start today, just before the pre-run brief, a few of our regular parkrunners gave a tribute to Josefin & Johan (also regulars) as they would be getting married that very same day. I had suggested to them after last week's parkrun that they such have their wedding ceremony at parkrun, but that idea didn't sound too attractive to them for some strange reason!

Josefin & Johan - many congratulations guys

parkrun is all about creating a happy, friendly community that encourages people to be active. We talk about it all the time that for many people the idea of running or even walking 5km's can be quite intimitading, due to a multitude of reasons. Regular exercise brings a variety of long-term physical and mental health benefits and parkrun stands out in its approach. As a runner myself I know that starting out is hard but even harder on your own.

With parkrun you’re not alone, so it has the power to encourage and inspire those who wouldn’t usually participate in sport to get involved. Even the Olympic athletes remember that first time they nervously pulled on their training shoes.

Encouraging this kind of activity is also a good investment. There is compelling evidence for the wide-ranging health benefits and cost savings that accrue from a more active local population. Increased levels of physical activity can be an effective means of preventing, delaying and managing a wide range of mental and physical health conditions.

Great to see lots of parkwalkers this week

It's really encouraging that our messages to "keep spreading the word" is working as we continue to see new registrations and people turning up every week. Just get on down and we promise you won't be disappointed!

Wave your hands in the air if you love parkrun

See you all next week and hopefully a certain Lars L who will be celebrating his 50th parkrun.
